Last time I posted on here was when I had just started my vacation, which for the record was an incredible month, but needless to say it has been a long time and a lot has happened. To begin with it has been almost a year since I packed my bags and left for Hawaii. Where has he been, you might be asking yourself. Well, to put it simply, I don’t know. All I know is that it was warm, humid and lonely.

After a month in Hawaii it was unfortunately time to go back home to Sweden. We went through all the security controls and  the baggage check ins at the airport. Just the usual things, nothing out of the ordinary. Then, finally the plane took off. However, no more than 15 minutes into the flight I started hearing peculiar noises coming from the left hand side of the airplane. I almost thought I hallucinating in some way, I just couldn’t believe my ears when the pilot addressed the situation. A group of birds had hit the turbine, and it was now failing to restart. 

With no more than one out of two engines working the pilot had no other choice than to opt for a forced landing. With no more than sea and jungle to choose from, the pilot had to make what we all hoped would be a good decision. The last thing I remember is that the aircraft rapidly dropped in altitude, everything beyond that point until the crash is still a blur. However I have regained some memories of what happened later on. What must have been an hour or two later I woke up stranded on a shore. With a massive headache I slowly stood up and tried to get a grasp of the situation, but to my dismay I seemed to be the only one who made it ashore. 

One of my greatest fear had just become reality, being all alone on a remote island with no way of reaching society. Although I was terrified of what was to come the following days, or for however long I would survive, I somehow still felt relief. I had safely made it back down on earth, but of course it wasn’t long before I realized all of the challenges  I was to face. Food, freshwater, shelter and civilization were all on the to-do list and to be frank with you, I didn’t even know where to begin. Do I search for survivors, do I gather food or do I wander into the seemingly endless jungle and become Tarzan? Only time will tell what happens next, all I can tell you is that this was just the beginning of a rough year.

Hawaii has always been on my top 3 list of places to visit. All of the amazing sceneries and the incredible experiences I’ve heard about honestly make me jealous. It really is the perfect vacation. The cities, sea, volcanoes and forests, each and all of them are unique in their own way. No matter who you are or what you like, you are guaranteed to enjoy it. 

Therefore I finally decided to leave the cold and gloomy Sweden and reach for the warmth over in the pacific. However, everything can’t be perfect. The flight left early in the morning which for someone like me is far from optimal as I’m more of a night owl in that sense, but I knew it was for a good cause so I gladly got ready and went of towards the airport.

As always, the wait was unbearable, but to make matters even worse the flight had been delayed by almost an hour. I knew from previous experiences that flights have tendencies to take of later than scheduled so I wasn’t surprised, but I thought surely it can’t get any worse now. I’m just going to board the plane, sleep through the flight and wake up in paradise, I though… Wrong. Throughout the entire flight babies were screaming. The gentleman sitting by the window constantly needed the bathroom and to top it of, the little kid in the seat behind me must have missed his daily marathon. This stereotypical flight experience was all but a good start to my dream vacation. 

However, I was determined not to let this ruin my first day on Hawaii, I still had plenty of time to turn my luck around and so we rented a car for the coming week and started exploring the fascinating island. We tried out everything in between surfing, hiking and skydiving in just the first 5 days that we now have spent here and I can tell you that we will for sure be doing a lot of it again.

After having spent almost a week here I can without a doubt in my mind tell you that it’s worth both your time and money. It hasn’t been short of any expectations, if anything it has already been more fun than what I could have ever imagined. I strongly recommend going here.
